Face The King Q&A

Your name?
Dan DelVecchio (lead guitarist).

Where are you from?
Long Island, New York, USA.

Band name:
Face The King.

Who is in your band?
Eric Zirlinger - Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar/Keyboards, Joey Dammacco - Bass Guitar/Backup Vocals/Synth, Randy Palumbo - Drums/Percussion.

How would you describe yourselves?
As far as genre, we call ourselves an alternative arena rock band. We're also often described as a "wall of sound," or an "American version of a British arena rock band". The sound Face The King strives for is something larger than life, the kind of music that should be heard in an arena, stadium, or coliseum - huge bass tones, ethereal guitars, bouncing delays, reverbs, soaring vocals, and thunderous gut-busting drums.

Who are your main influences musically?
We're influenced by many of the arena bands from both the past and present who made an everlasting impact on more than one generation, as well as those who we feel will make an impact on future generations to come. Bands such as this include U2, Muse, Coldplay, The Killers, Foo Fighters, Silversun Pickups, Kings of Leon, etc.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
Each of us individually want to achieve a simple goal - we want want to play music for the rest our lives. However as a band, we want to do more than that. We want to use our talent to help inspire people to find who they are, stand by who they are and to follow their dreams in spite of what anyone may say to discourage them. In addition we want our music to bring people together from all different walks of life. What we realize is that at a concert, people are inclined to put aside their petty differences, because when the lights go down - everyone is singing together in unison. Music can be a very powerful art form, and we hope to use it to unify people and put an end to hateful things like bullying and violence.
One of the big things we are working on right now is an anti bullying campaign. Bullying is something that occurs every day, yet too many people are afraid to take action against it. We are partnering with the USA Network's Hate The Hate - a major anti bullying organization in order to put on a massive concert this summer that will take place in multiple states at once. Stay posted for more details! In the mean time, we are taking bullying stories from fans and answering as many as we can with our advice. If you have a story you'd like to share with us, please send it to facethekingmusic@gmail.com.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
There have been several highlights thus far so it's very hard to choose one, so I'll name a few. Last summer we won two of Ernie Ball's competitions in a row, allowing us the opportunity to play both Warped Tour and the Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival with heavy hitters like Shinedown, Godsmack, Adelita's Way, Yellowcard, Taking Back Sunday, New Found Glory, and others. Both were equally a thrilling experience to say the least. The Rockstar UPROAR Festival was probably our largest crowd to date, playing for well over 3,000 people.
Another big highlight was winning the "Best Band of Long Island," for the Long Island Press Magazine. Long Island is where each of us grew up, and it is a proud accomplishment for us to be pronounced with such a title. We owe everything to our incredible fans - from the time that Face The King was in its early beginnings, I never imagined having such a loyal fan base of people who truly cared and understood what we were trying to do with both our music and our message. You guys are the best.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
When you play a lot of shows, there will always be those few that went horribly wrong. Sometimes when it rains - it pours. When we played a set once in Connecticut - Joey broke his bass strap and cut his finger, our drummer broke one of his drumsticks, and Eric broke a guitar string and knocked the microphone stand over...all at the SAME time. Can you say Murphy's law?

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
I would without a doubt choose, "You, Me & the Sound". Not only is it the title track off our upcoming album to be released soon (Nice plug, right?), but it describes everything that we stand for. We are a band that plays for the fans (You), the band (Me), and the music (the Sound). As I previously mentioned, we want to unify people through our music and this song represents that very idea. It's about bringing all different kinds of people together to a place where they can let themselves go without being judged, and can simply embrace the sound of music.

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
We'd just like to say something to all of our fans - You guys have done so much already to help get Face The King off the ground, and we adore every single last one of you. We've been working on this upcoming record for a very long time and know that you all deserve the best possible product there is. Thank you all so much for being so patient and supportive with everything that we are trying to do. Soon, the wait will be over and we will finally be able to give you all what you deserve. I promised myself I wouldn't cry! (choking up) Party on.
